Guitar and Composition

I began with 10 years to play classical guitar and three years later with E-guitar and E-bass. As I chose music as major subject in high school, I composed a prelude for three guitars for my graduation thesis. As the thesis got two distinctions, I extended and recorded the prelude in 2005.

Then, I discovered cajon and bouzouki in my mid-20's. Nowadays, I mostly play pieces from my favourite composers Astor Piazzolla, Manuel de Falla, Francisco Tárrega, Augustin Barrios-Mangoré, Heitor Villa-Lobos, Joaquín Turina, and Sérgio Assad. Furthermore, also renaissance and baroque compositions are part of my repertoire.

Les Préludes – (2005)

History

Prélude Op. 1 was created based on my high school dissertation in music. It was composed from autumn 2003 until spring 2004 originally for 3 guitars and then extended due to recording reasons in February 2005 for a whole band including 3 to 4 guitars, a bass and two singers. At the same time, Prélude Op. 2 was composed for a whole band.

Reference

The structure of Op. 1 is based on the middle three songs of Pink Floyd's Album Animals—especially on those of the song Dogs. The typical chord progression in the second and fourth part was extracted from a tape registred on a jam session of my father and his friends. Op. 2 borrows an assembling similar to Ravel's Bolero. All the cited songs were the inspiration sources to compose both preludes.
