Who I am
About
I studied geography with a specialization in Geographic Information Science, driven by a fascination for science, technology, and the arts. My Master’s thesis — awarded with distinction — turned 3D spatial data into a navigable sound space. That blend of programming and research led to a PhD in Geoinformation Engineering at ETH Zurich, where I developed a 3D decision-support system for planning high-voltage power lines.
Today I work in the energy domain, where I drive digitalization, advanced analytics, and AI initiatives and lead interdisciplinary projects on sustainable gases such as hydrogen — work that keeps me very well connected within the energy sector. With Energinal Consulting Schito, founded in 2026, I support clients on GIS-related topics and give workshops in the field of Spatial Data Science.
I learn by making — whether that’s a decision-support system, the IoT and security infrastructure in my home, or a new piece on the guitar.
What I do
Energy & spatial data
My PhD at ETH Zurich produced algorithms and a 3D decision-support system for automated transmission-line planning, developed in close collaboration with industry. The toolkit behind it — statistics, multi-criteria decision analysis, game theory, software engineering — is what I apply daily to operational safety, supply security, and the energy transition.
How I teach
Teaching & coaching
Teaching has been part of my life since 2007, when I began as a teaching assistant. I hold two Swiss teaching credentials — the Lehrdiplom für Maturitätsschulen in Geography and the Lehrdiplom für den Allgemeinbildenden Unterricht — qualifying me to teach at academic high schools (Gymnasium) and vocational schools (Berufsfachschulen), where I taught for five years.
Today I lecture at ETH Zurich on the Interoperability of Geographic Information Systems and in the CAS program in Spatial Information Systems, and I give workshops in Spatial Data Science. My style is student-centered and hands-on: real-world case studies, learning through experience, and one guiding principle — students should not only know how to apply a method, but also when to trust it, and when to question it.
The balance to screen time: I teach group fitness at ASVZ and Activ Fitness — TRX®, BODYATTACK™, BODYPUMP™, and LES MILLS CORE™. That’s also where my newest DJ mixes premiere.
What moves me
Music
Music has run alongside everything else since childhood: classical and flamenco-influenced guitar, composition, and formal studies in musicology — from Greek music theory to Beethoven.
DJ 18karat
As DJ 18karat I hosted a frequent radio show on Radio Radius, played Radio Streetparade, Züri Fäscht (several times), and countless bars and clubs. The decks aren’t retired — you can still book DJ 18karat for your event.
